Project: A School for the
Poor Children in Hospet
It was in 1985 that the Salesians of Don Bosco began working as missionaries to rescue and rehabilitate the child labourers from the iron ore mining areas of Hospet (North Karnataka) through a non-formal skill training centre, community development and literacy programmes. Our literacy programmes have been effective and now we need to relocate these children to a proper school to impart to them quality education. Now it has become an urgent need to build a new school to meet the educational needs of the increasing number of poor children and to upgrade the existing school to higher classes to ensure continuity. The majority of the children studying in the school come from economically and socially backward families. The poor people of the area are not in a position to contribute anything substantially. Only education can assure them a better future to live a dignified life.
